John Paananen and Sara Huston make up the collaborative, interdisciplinary avant-garde studio called ‘The Last Attempt At Greatness’. They met while in graduate school at Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan just north of Detroit and now live and work in Portland, Oregon.

They explore subjects of progress, expectation, liminality, categorization, perception, value and the intersection and language of art and design. Their work is aimed at provoking discourse and contemplation in the viewer or user in an attempt to disrupt conventional ways of thinking, induce reflection and challenge the boundaries of what is known.
